Examples of STEM Careers:  

  • Spacecraft Engineer – develop and test software to command and control spacecraft in orbit

  • Automotive Engineer – design / modify automobiles and automobile products and  accessories  

  • Software Developer – create new technologies for business and people, such as apps,  computer programs, and web sites 

  • Environmental Engineer – help to protect the environment 

  • Biomedical Engineer – develop new medicines and types of medical equipment

  • Security Analyst – protect businesses and government against cyber-attacks and data  breaches  

  • Marine Biologist – study the oceans and the creatures in them 

  • 3D Designer – take ideas and make them into real objects  

  • Statistician – understand data to help plan and make predictions

Education Needed/Other Requirements:  

  • College associate’s degree (2 years) or, more likely, bachelor’s degree (4 years)

  • In some instances, a master’s degree (usually 2 years) and doctoral degree (4+ years)

  • In some instances, certificates and/or licenses, for example, an actuary, accountant or  engineer 

  • Internship(s) and/or co-op(s) (college work/study programs)
